A typical and very popular Sicilian handmade hard cheese, Pecorino Pepato is a gourmet sheep’s milk cheese studded with peppercorns.
This hard pecorino combined with whole black peppercorns; Pepato is matured for a minimum of 4 months to perfection. Like many of the world’s classic cheeses, Pepato originated as a staple of the peasant’s diet. Today, it is enjoyed by all people – rich and poor.
It has a lovely, slightly pungent, and intense smell. With its characteristic spicy taste, Pepato is a tasty table cheese that is also perfect for grating. Grate it over soups, salads, and pastas. It is an exciting alternative to the more common pecorino!

This is the alter ego of ‘Bitto’ cheese, produced mainly in the autumn, winter and spring months is made exclusively on the alpine pastures. Like Bitto, it was awarded denomination of protected origin (DOP) status in 1995. It can be ripened with excellent results but it is often preferred fresh on its own or as an ingredient of traditional Valtellina recipes.
